THE QUICKSTART GUIDE TO

Gamify Your Course

Simply and quickly add game elements to your course to
help students take action and get results.

THROUGHOUT HISTORY

We love to play games

From the ancient Olympics to the Starbucks rewards program, game principles tap into powerful, innate human desires that get people work towards a goal or desired outcome. Learn how to ethically:

N

Increase student motivation and feel like they’re “winning”

N

Incentivize students to take action so that they see results

N

Keep students focused on the “win” that is possible in your course

THERE'S A REASON EVERYONE IS LOOKING AT GAMIFICATION

What if your course felt more like an epic quest than an online presentation? There’s something in us all that wants to experience out own greatness, and game elements can add excitement and a sense of purpose back into our learning experiences.

THIS WORKSHOP INCLUDES

THE CALL RECORDING

You have lifetime (of the course) access to the recording on my course platform. (And it’s a gamified course platform!)

A SPECIAL CHALLENGE

Finish your quest by choosing 3-5 game elements for your course in 7 days and I’ll review your work.

FUTURE UPDATES

All enhancements and future live rounds of this course are included. Now is always the best time to buy!

YOUR EPIC COURSE

Game elements PLUS your great content can add up to a uniquely different student experience. And that matters, because students who lose interest and wander off don’t get the life-changing results that your course can offer.

And in case you’re wondering, this is not about adding PBL- points, leaderboards, and badges with the intention of using purely extrinsic rewards in a shallow sort of way. Instead, we’re looking at how to structure your overall course around a meaningful outcome, and help students do what they need to do in order to get the results they want.

THE "GAMIFY MY COURSE" WORKSHOP

WHAT’S INCLUDED

In this 1.5 hour workshop, I’ll break down the elements of games that make humans want to go forth and win! Then I’ll show you how to make simple tweaks to the structure of your course to increase student motivation AND the likelihood that they’ll keep coming back and do the work. These are simple, ethical, research-based tips and strategies that help you help your student get the results they really want.

*** Please note, no special tech or course platform is required to use the strategies in this workshop. Some platforms can make it easier or prettier, but you can use the fundamentals in everything from a live, in-person training to a simple course platform to a sophisticated course platform. It’s really more about what motivates humans. 🙂
WHY I’M TEACHING THIS
For starters, I’ve done post-graduate work in gaming in education and learning in virtual worlds. It changed my life.
I actually worked for a gamified online math curriculum. (ST Math is awesome!)
I’ve read the research, and put it into practice for myself, and then I became a consultant for a gamified course platform.
I’ve done a lot of work in this area, and I love busting through some of the myths about gamification, as well as seeing how course creators light up when they see how much well-implemented game elements can add to the student experience.
And then it occurred to me that I’m not actually teaching this, and I wanted to change that!

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Hi, I’m Laura!
As an Instructional Designer, I’m that thing you never knew you needed! As I was coming into the entrepreneurial space after years in the corporate learning and development world, I realized we needed better models for how to really deliver AFTER the sale. So I created my own signature frameworks to bring the science of learning together with the art of transformation. It’s all grounded in cognitive research, from my studies to earn my Master’s in Education, and later post-graduate work.

I help you discover the outcomes you want for your client, and then reverse-engineer a clear path to success. Even better, I provide templates that make the process efficient and smart, so that I’m tackling the learning design while you provide the expert content.

FEEDBACK AND “AHA MOMENTS”

Your session summarized beautifully how valuable it is to include coaching elements in online formats by offering a space for guided reflection to participants. Concepts like “establishing a pattern of doing” and “managing the emotional climate” really resonate with me. I love how you bring this into a structured format that is easily adaptable for course designers, and accessible for participants. You inspired me to simplify my own materials and focus on what takes the user to the next step in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a fancypants platform to be able to use what you teach in this course?
Nope, no special tech or course platform is required to use the strategies in this workshop. Some platforms can make it easier or prettier, but you can use the fundamentals in everything from a live, in-person training to a simple course platform to a sophisticated course platform. It’s really more about what motivates humans. 🙂
What if I haven't decided on my next course?
The principles I teach will still be relevant when you DO create a course. You’re welcome to buy the course at the introductory price and watch the replay when you’re ready.
How long will this take?
The course is schedule and materials are structured to take one hour. I generally stay on calls to answer questions as long as needed, but you’re free to hop off at any time. After the live call is over, if you would like some motivation to make your own first lesson I’ll have a 7 day window where you can submit your work to me for a free video review.
What if I don’t learn anything new?
I think that’s unlikely because I don’t know of anyone else who is teaching this, but in that case, email for a refund within 7 days, at midnight, Pacific.
I’ve got another question.
Great! Use the chat box at the right bottom corner of this page and let’s chat.
